The museum and collection

The Françoise Cachin gallery is named after the Musée d'Orsay's first director and founder. It reopened in September 2019 after the museum expanded and redesigned the rooms on the fifth floor. The purpose was to house the postimpressionist collection. Postimpressionists ventured not only into painting but also into other arts such as ceramics and engravings. The collection includes prime examples of their works, such as sculptures by Gaugin.

The assignment

To safely and aesthetically present these artefacts, the Musée d'Orsay required 13 museum display cases. We manufactured and installed suspended wall cases, recessed cases and freestanding cases. Depending on the case type, single pivot or multi-pivot hinges were used as opening systems. We equipped the cases with extra white, anti-reflective security glass in order to improve visibility. Some of the cases have the slim profile, which gives the showcases both strength and elegance.

The project: challenges & results

The client is very satisfied of the collaboration with Meyvaert and of the result of the project. The artworks have now been given ample space and an appealing presentation by using display cases that are secure, aesthetic and convenient to use and reuse.
