MODULAR FREESTANDING CASE

This member of the Meyvaert Product family opens up a world of possibilities for temporary, evolving or travelling exhibitions. The Modular Freestanding Case is a flexible, user-friendly, sustainable and hence top pick for museums who wish to be able to reuse and rearrange their showcases to perfectly suit the specific needs of a new exhibition.

The key to this case’s success and popularity is its modularity, which enables exhibition managers and designers to reorganize their gallery layout with showcases that can match their next unique exhibition. No more going above and beyond to make exhibitions fit into a fixed and rigid layout with showcases that were custom-made for other artifacts formerly displayed.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The modular cases can easily be connected to each other, forming larger and differently shaped showcases around new exhibition artifacts. If you want to safely store a showcase to sit out one of your exhibitions, an easily transportable flightcase can make sure it’s protected until it’s ready for the next one.

The absolute user-friendliness of the assembly, transport and storage is guaranteed to future-proof the functional and elegantly yet solidly built modular case.

Museums and private collectors across the world have chosen the modular freestanding case because of its track record of creating safe and secure environments for collections and artifacts. Thanks to its high-grade specifications, the world’s top museums have approved it for loaned objects.

Useful info

Mountable & Demountable

We developed the modular showcase for smooth and safe assembly and disassembly, with a minimal amount of components and tools, and without any loose parts. The components simply slide in place, requiring only minimal fastening.

Other benefits are that every component can be lifted by two people and that none of the components have sharp edges. The bottom has a low center of gravity, so that the first standing glass side is stable and secure.

1. Level the base module using the levelling feet.
2. Place the two glass sides and the top.
3. Place the top frame and the third glass side. Place the internal elements.
4. Install the door and kick plinths to finish the build.

Transportable & Storable

The base frame of the case is self-supporting. This means that you can move a fully assembled showcase using a standard pallet truck. This is particularly useful during the initial stages of display building, when the best setup of the gallery space is yet to be determined.

Additionally, we have a convenient flightcase on wheels available to safely transport and store the modular case in its disassembled form. There are two available sizes: a flightcase for one case and a flightcase for two cases.

Flexible & Modular

Developed to be modular, demountable and storable, this showcase is the ideal choice for your temporary, evolving or travelling exhibitions. When planning an exhibition, designers and exhibition managers can use their creativity in developing the gallery layout according to the objects’ and exhibition’s specific needs, instead of being limited to an existing and rigid layout.

A single showcase is 900 x 900 x 2200 mm in size. The door opens at an angle of 90°, permitting full access even for larger objects. The modular cases can easily be connected, forming a larger case, giving you the ability to create the exact volume you need around your artifact or collection, and later adjust the volume to a new exhibition layout. The cases can even be joined in more complex arrangements with any number of cases placed in a straight line, as well as in an L-shape, or assemblies of two cases wide.

As your exhibitions evolve, you can purchase additional showcase elements to match new exhibition requirements, such as the dropdown tails for accent lighting and the in-case projector. You will find more information in the options section of this brochure.

Sustainable & Reusable

Temporary exhibitions often ask for custom-made showcases which become useless as soon as the exhibition has ended. The fact that the modular case can be reused, makes it the most sustainable showcase available on the market.

The modular case has even more sustainable features:
- The constituent materials like steel, aluminum and glass can be recycled.
- Flat packaging reduces transportation.
- The components are sourced from suppliers that have reduced emission processes.
- The final assembly takes place in our new Belgian green factory, which is mainly powered with solar energy and where water is being reused.

Present

LIGHTING
Each exhibition can be presented to its fullest potential thanks to 8 LED spots. This flexible lighting system complies with the highest museum quality requirements. You can also add light with the optional dimmable LED fiber optic dropdown tails which can be connected to the vertical shelf rods.

COLOR & FINISH
The color and finish of the case is RAL 9005 Black Zero Matte powder coating. This finish has been specifically engineered for all Meyvaert Products. The Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is extremely low whilst keeping a high resistance to scratches. Special colors and finishes can be selected upon request.

INTERNAL ELEMENTS
Artifacts vary in size, weight and mounting requirements. Therefore we have developed several internal elements, from which you can select the best fit for your unique object presentation.
- Half-size and full-size shelves for smaller objects. The shelves are supported by a stainless-steel frame which is connected to the case top. The display height of the shelves can be adjusted.
- Powder-coated steel plinth for heavier or smaller objects.
- Back panel in PVC foamboard for objects requiring vertical mounting or graphics.
- Base panel in PVC foamboard for objects requiring bottom mounting.

GLASS
‘Low-iron’, often referred to as extra-white, laminated glass is used to avoid the slightly green tinge of regular glass. This will allow the visitors to better appreciate the true colors of objects. An optional anti-reflective (low-reflective) coating on the glass is available. This coating strongly reduces distracting light reflections and improves the appearance and color rendering of the objects.

Preserve

To meet the highest levels of conservation requirements and to create a stable relative humidity environment inside the case for the objects, the modular case is equipped with an externally accessible silica gel compartment. The compartment is concealed behind the kick plinth and can contain up to 2 full-size silica gel cassettes. The external access prevents disturbance of the relative humidity inside the display area when replacing the cassettes. The 10 mm ventilation gap around the perimeter of the case allows for effective passive ventilation.

For specific locations or objects requiring a specific relative humidity level, we offer optional additional devices:
- Invisible fan module for enhanced air exchange between the silica gel compartment and the display volume.
- Active relative humidity control unit with no-water membrane technology integrated in the top.

Other features ensuring optimal conservation of your valuables include:
- All materials and finishes used inside the case are neutral and have been ODDY tested by an external accredited laboratory.
- The case has an air exchange rate of less than 0,1 or 10% per day.
- The laminated glass filters up to 99,9% of UV lighting.

Protect

We use anti-bandit laminated 11,5 mm glass, composed of 2 x 5 mm float glass with a 1,34 mm PVB interlayer.
The showcase has two mechanical and Abloy security locks, which are optimally suited for use in showcases. Every lock can have a unique key combination. The closing mechanism actively compresses the seal as the door is secured into the closed position. The locks and closing mechanism are positioned at the top and the bottom of the case. As an additional security feature, these are not visible to the visitors, making it impossible for them to determine which side is the door.

A security grill situated between the silica gel compartment and base panel allows air to circulate freely inside the
display area but prevents access to the display volume. The access panel for the lighting top is also secured with an Abloy camlock.

For additional security, an optional 30 mm internal frame is available.

Projection Module

In an era of flatscreens and digital signage, your audience has become accustomed to moving images. If you want to increase their engagement and immersion, enhancing your exhibition with projectors becomes a self-evident choice. The optional projector module offers an unprecedented solution to meet these expectations.

Being part of the modular case options, we developed this module as a plug-and-play solution to be evenly user-friendly and modular.

What’s more, a single projector module also fits configurations of two and three showcases joined side by side, ensuring additional flexibility for your future exhibit designs.

WITH THE RIGHT FOCUS

The goal of projection is to tell the story of an artifact while keeping it in focus. Sometimes, however, projection distracts from the artifact itself. We kept this in mind and made sure the module projects only on the backglass, at such an angle that objects placed in the showcase are not in the path of the beam.

The projector offers brightness and clarity even in lit spaces and operates very quietly. The module in which the projector and PC are integrated is an unobtrusive design that blends in with the rest of the modular case’s design features.
